Our Story
Born from a global vision of service learning, FSD Jinja, Uganda began in 2007 as part of the Foundation for Sustainable Development (FSD-USA). Over a decade, we learned and grew under FSD-USA’s mentorship, fostering positive change in Ugandan communities. In 2018, we became an independent organization, the Foundation for Sustainable Community-Based Development (FSD Jinja, Uganda). As a registered Ugandan NGO (INDR143472008NB), FSD Jinja Uganda empowers communities, individuals, groups, and community development practitioners to make positive changes in communities and advances the ethical practice of sustainable community development.

Prosperous communities where women, youth, and all citizens have the opportunity and capacity to direct economic, social, and environmental resources towards sustainable outcomes that improve lives and communities.
Mission:
Empowering communities: We train practitioners in ethical community development work and support grassroots leaders, particularly women, youth, and vulnerable groups, to build sound communities, healthy environments, and strong economies. Through cross-cultural service learning, we raise global awareness and co-create solutions for a sustainable future

Our Approach
Our approach mobilizes resources – human, economic, and natural – to fuel sustainable, life-changing initiatives. We utilize an asset-based community development approach, fostering self-reliance and inspiring appreciation for a community’s existing resources, building confidence to leverage them further. We constantly challenge ourselves and others to do more with what we have. We believe that a resourceful approach allows for positive change, even in low-resource settings
