Education and Youth Development

Youth have aspirations - shaped by their education, skills, life experiences, and networks. Youth in Uganda are the youngest population in the world, with 77% of its population being under 25 years of age. The lives of millions of Ugandan youth are marked by poverty, inadequate education and skills, inadequate work/employment opportunities, exploitation, diseases, civil unrest and gender discrimination. The environment they live in brings both new possibilities and new risks that undermine the traditional social support that helps the youth prepare for, negotiate and explore the opportunities and demands of their passage to adulthood.

Reason to participate in Education and Youth projects

Participating in the youth and education gives you an opportunity to support the youth reach their maximum potential through providing learning that meets Ugandan Education Standards. Through capacity building, you will be able to provide youth with mentorship and entrepreneurial skills to enable them start income generation projects to augment on their livelihood standards. You will also gain hands on experience of working with the local Ugandan Communities and get an understanding of the context and magnitude of the challenges youth experience while trying to live their lives in Uganda

 

Volunteer & Internship opportunities

The education and youth development internship focuses on working towards some solutions within the youth reach to change their attitudes towards work and education. It involves working with the youth to develop life skills, acquire knowledge and information to support the creation of more jobs; empowerment to negotiate and explore the opportunities for improved transitioning to adulthood.

Vocational Skills Building at John Hill Secondary School

Located just outside Jinja town, the Njeru community surrounding the school is highly populated. The biggest percentage of the population around the area is composed of young people who have not received basic education. There are so many reasons as to why young people in the area are not educated.

Strengthening capacity of schools in Menstrual Health Management

KORD supports 200 orphans and vulnerable children (OVC) to access formal education annually, 58% of whom are female.It’s estimated that 48% of school dropouts of female students can be attributed to difficulty accessing sanitary pads due to the high cost available on the market. Some students resort to using old and unhygienic clothes, bedings and grass during menstruation.

Access to quality education - Nakanyonyi Primary School

Nakanyonyi Primary School is located in Jinja District, Bugembe Town Council in Bukwale Village. The school was established by community in 1960’s and currently it’s the only Universal Primary Education (UPE) School in Nakanyonyi Parish. The Primary School has an incredibly high enrollment with a total population of 2563 pupils, of which 58% are females.

Capacity Enhancement for PEFO Community Library

The PEFO Community Library project is an information center aimed at promoting a reading culture and provides access to information materials. The library is used as space for revision, reference and research work. Community access library computers and internet and utilize the indoor games while others come in groups for story telling sessions
