I found my experience with the FSD Jinja Virtual Internship Program to be very educational and valuable. I appreciated the many lessons learned from Margaret and Dan at FSD and Samuel at SME, who are all so knowledgeable and experienced in the field of sustainable development. The best part of the experience was learning strategies for teaching VSLA to Twekembe Women’s Group and groups with similarly low levels of literacy and formal business education. I feel better informed and equipped to support future community education programs I may be involved with. As someone interested in international development as a career, I really valued seeing a small project through each stage of implementation. I also gained experience in teamwork, language and communication skills, and virtual collaboration. Personally, I gained patience while we waited through the internet blackout and connection issues. In sum, this experience was highly educational, as I learned about Ugandan culture and sustainable development in an applied and collaborative environment.
